Argentina Partnership

Our church is one of several SBCV churches in the state that have committed to a 3 year partnership (2008-2010) with Buenos Aires, Argentina through the Rio de la Plata partnership.  The project in Argentina is known at the ABBA project standing for 'Adopt a barrio in Buenos Aires.'  As part of the project, we have adopted a barrio (community) known as Barrio Coghlan.

Barrio Coghlan is a small middle-class neighborhood of 19,000 people with no evangelical church. The ABBA project means that we, and other partnering churches in Virginia, are THE Christian witness in this community.

Our church will be visiting Barrio Coghlan at least once each year.  On our one-week trips, we will:

  • Prayerwalking-The first step involves praying on location throughout Coghlan and at critical locations in the community.

  • Literature Distribution-Teams will distribute tracts, the Gospel of John, New Testaments, and other Christian literature, in the community and especially at the local train station.
  • Street Evangelism-Teams will work towards engaging people in order to share Christ with them and to work towards starting a church in Coghlan.
  • Evangelistic Events-Teams will offer at least one evangelistic event on their stay. The event will be based upon the team’s gifts and the community make-up, but could include: sports camps, Vacation Bible Schools, food fairs, music, health clinics, soccer, etc.

The cost of the trip will be $1500 to $2000, depending on the cost of airfare.

Our next trip is May 24 to May 31 of 2008.
