Day 11-April 28

Luke 21-22

Observation: There are so many things that we don’t understand about Jesus’ return, but the one thing He makes clear is that we need to be ready.

Question: Why does Jesus tell the disciples to obtain swords? The context obviously implies that they will experience conflict at the hands of others and that things will have changed since they were first sent out by Him. At the same time, it seems like Jesus meant this figuratively since two are enough and when they actually use the sword He rebukes them. It is a confusing interaction.

Application: If God can speak through us in the face of persecution with us having not prepared, I can trust that God can speak through me in any setting as I rely upon Him.

Prayer: Father, keep me from temptation today as I rely upon Your Spirit for strength.

One Comment

  1. The Word of God is sharper than a two edged sword. (Hebrews 4:12). The Bible become our weapon of choice in the face of persecution. But no swordsman becomes proficient without long hours of training and practice. It takes the spiritual disciplines of prayer, study, and memorization to become a “master swordsman.”
