Day 63-June 19

Matthew 15-16

The story of the Canaanite woman is startling. It just doesn’t seem to fit Jesus’ character anywhere else. I can only assume that Jesus is working in wisdom to encourage this woman’s faith. Of course at the end of the day that is what happens and she receives what she desires. We should certainly be that persistent.

  1. In Matthew 15: 15-19, Peter acknowledges that Jesus is the Messiah, and Jesus explains that He (Not Peter) is the rock that the church will be built on. Then, Jesus makes the statement that the gates of Hell will not be able to stand against His church. While this may be an end times prophesy, I think it has relevance today.
We have a tendency to take defensive positions when we are under spiritual assault.
We call our church building a sanctuary, we go on retreats. The battle is on the outside and we have Jesus’ promise that we will be victorious when we are on the offensive. We need to be bold in our witness.
