Day 69-June 25

Matthew 27-28

Everything in our faith is dependent upon the resurrection. Matthew’s statements about the resurrection actually help us in thinking through a defense of the resurrection. Since no one really debates the existence of Jesus of Nazareth. No one debates the death of Jesus. The explanations against the resurrection come down to things like the suggestion that His body was stolen, but those suggestions just don’t add up. Jesus is alive!

  1. What is the significance of 30 pieces of silver? Exodus 21:32 tells us that if a bull gores a slave, the bull’s owner must pay the slave’s owner 30 shackles of silver. This shows that the Jewish leaders ascribed little value to the life of Jesus as opposed to how much the owner of the slaves or bull would be worth. Jeremiah and Zachariah both contain prophesies that address the 30 pieces of silver.
Sources estimate today’s value of a shekel of Jesus’ time was 4 days wages, so it was not enough to set Judas up for life. At $400-$600, so 30 coins today would be worth $12,000-$15,000. What is the worth of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection
for us today? The Beyond measure, the value of eternal life.
