  1. In Old Testament times, there was no such thing as crucifixion. Yet Psalm 22, written 1000 years before today’s reading, predicts in detail Jesus’ death on the cross. When Jesus cries out ‘My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” in verse 34, he is unequivocally demonstrating that he is fulfilling the Old Testament prophesies that He is the Messiah. But the people around him don’t get it, concluding he is calling for Elijah. Do we get it today? Do we conclude that Jesus was a nice guy who said a lot of good things in his Sermon on the Mount? Or do we accept his sacrifice on the cross, recognize he died for our sins, and commit to following him daily?
