Matthew 6 presents to us what is known as the Lord’s Prayer. Take note that it doesn’t seem like Jesus wanted us to repeat this prayer over and over, but to use it as a model that we build on to pray.
Much of Chapter 5 seems to focuses on living according to the law when Jesus says several times “You have heard.” But notice He enhances each “you have heard,” changing it from a physical to a spiritual emphasis. Chapter 6, likewise, emphasizes
spiritual values. As we serve God, what we do that is unseen by people is more important than what is seen. Treasures laid up in heaven are the result of making decisions that have eternal rather than temporal values.
